Folegandros it is a small island 12 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide that is part of the Cyclades Islands. We get to her after passing two days in Athens and after 5 hours by fast ferry from the port of Piraeus. Folegandros has everything the visitor is looking for from the Greek islands: whitewashed houses, blue-painted doors and windows and dreamy beaches with barely bathers. This piece of land in the middle of the Aegean has become our little personal paradise. If you are wondering what to do, where to eat and where to sleep for two days in Folegandros, do not miss this article.

What to do two days in Folegandros

Visit Chora and the Kastro de Folegandros

Chora It is the most picturesque and tourist town of Folegandros and which houses the largest concentration of cafes, restaurants and hotels. However, everything is done with great grace and because of the size of the island there is no feeling of overexploitation or overwhelm, even in August. The oldest and most authentic area is the Kastro, the old city center that is accessed from the town square. It is formed by three streets full of old whitewashed houses and with windows and railings of bluish colors. This is where we had the hotel and it was a success because, as it is still a fairly residential area, it is very calm, but at the same time it is only a few steps from the heart.

Go up to the church of Panagia

Next to Chora, there is a church on top of the mountain that overlooks a cliff. Its white zig-zag access ramp points the path of the path along a rugged slope and is one of the most beautiful and picturesque prints of Folegandros. From the top of the church you can see spectacular views of the island.

Go on the path to Fira beach

From Chora you can reach this beach by a rocky path quite well signposted and not very complicated. From the center of Chora it takes an hour to walk and the last section of the trail is downhill. From that beach to Angali there are about 20 more minutes and from there you can take the bus back to Chora.

Watch the sunset

We don't know what the Cyclades islands will have, but their sunsets are spectacular. In Folegandros we recommend you see it from the small church that you will find on the path that leads to the beach of Fira. Anyway, do not relax much because the path back is not lit (!).

Hiking to the beach of Livadaki

This beach can only be accessed by walking along the path that leaves Ano Meria (last bus stop) or by boat from the port of Angali. We walked to the beach from Chora and took almost three hours down the road with ups and downs. The final stretch was complicated because the road was full of rocks, but the reward was to arrive at 10 in the morning and be completely alone. At half past eleven the boat arrived with the bathers, and at that time we started back to the last bus stop of Ano Meria (it took 45 minutes to arrive).

If you do not want to give you the walking paunch, you can take the first bus that leaves from Chora to Ano Meria (10am; € 1.80) and from there walk along the path for 45 minutes. Another option is to go by boat from Angali. The first boat sails at 11 in the morning and then one leaves every hour. The price is € 9 and every hour he returns to leave bathers and pick them up.
