He Perito Moreno It is the main tourist attraction of Argentina. Although it is located in Patagonia, a region far south of the capital where international flights arrive, most tourists agree that a complete visit to Argentina has to go through this famous glacier. In fact, it has been a Unesco World Heritage since 1981. But is it really worth it? Yes, basically because it is a very spectacular natural wonder and one of the most accessible glaciers in the world.

The visit to Perito Moreno It has three possible slopes: see it from the viewpoint, see it closely on board a ship or see it very closely on an ice trekking excursion. Each of these options is more expensive than the previous one, so you usually have to choose one or the other depending on the budget. In our case, we had planned a fairly intense route through Argentina, so in the end we decided to see it by boat and then go to the viewpoint catwalks. However, in retrospect I think it would have been better to do the excursion above the glacier and then go to the viewpoint. The reason is that walking on a glacier is something that can only be done here and in very few other places on the planet, so it is more special, and offers a perspective that is not obtained by boat or in the viewpoint. But well, let's see how the visit went.

We entered the Los Glaciares National Park early in the morning with the car and went to the small dock under the shadows from where the ship left. We had the tickets we had bought from the Ice and Adventure agency for 250 pesos at his office in El Calafate. This agency organizes departures every hour from 10 to 16 hours, and also organizes the excursion above the glacier. The girl who attended us kindly commented that, if we later encouraged ourselves to do the minitrekking (only 2 hours), as it also includes navigation on Lake Brazo Rico, we could do so by paying the difference. However, in the end we did not fall into temptation and follow the planned plan.

We deliver the tickets at the box office and get on the boat with a lot of tourists. Shortly after, the ship sailed and, when surrounding a rocky rock of Lake Brazo Rico, the east face of Perito Moreno became visible in all its bluish whiteness. As we approached, we saw several ice floes that had come off the glacier. Finally, we arrived at the wall of Perito Moreno and went out to the deck to see it better despite the icy wind that was blowing.
