Eight bloggers, five GoCars Barcelona and one afternoon of rally for Barcelona. This was the proposal that made us Hotel.info to spend a day rediscovering our favorite points of Barcelona through Twitter. I was lucky to team up with Mercedes from Another Barcelona, because she is a great connoisseur of the city, and the theme we chose was: Watchtowers of Barcelona. Below I will summarize the best views of Barcelona that I discovered that afternoon:
Watchtower # 1: Terrace of the CGT offices
He had passed countless times in front of the headquarters of CC. OO located on Via Laietana. What I did not know is that the CGT offices are on the top floor of the building and has a bar with a terrace and exceptional views, where Shakira filmed the Pitbull video clip «Get it started». The CGT will soon leave this location, so you have to hurry to enjoy these views.
Watchtower # 2: Roof of Santa María del Mar
For a few weeks you can enjoy the views of the Born district and Barcelona from the terrace of the church of Santa María del Mar. The best of all is that the views are included in a guided tour that takes place from Thursday to Sunday from Holy Week and until November 1. This guided tour allows you to learn about the history and curiosities of the construction of this church, which is one of the most beautiful in the city. The guided tour costs € 5 and a part goes to the restoration of the church.
Watchtower # 3: Columbus Monument
At the end of the Ramblas and facing the sea stands the monument to Christopher Columbus, which also has a small viewpoint just at the foot of the great navigator. Last year the viewpoint was closed to the public after an incident in which visitors were locked in the elevator, but fortunately it has been revised and will be open to the public in June 2013.
Watchtower # 4: Miramar Viewpoint
Taking advantage that we could move around the city in GoCar, we wanted to explore the area of Montjuïc, starting with the Miramar viewpoint. The Miramar building was the former RTVE headquarters in Barcelona and is currently a luxury hotel. In the public gardens opposite there is a viewpoint where you can see fantastic views of the port of Barcelona and the sea.
Watchtower # 5: MNAC (National Museum of Art of Catalonia)
This is one of my favorite museums in the city, as it houses an incredible collection of Romanesque art but, in addition, from the steps of the entrance you have a beautiful panorama of the city and you can enjoy the spectacle of the fountains of Montjuïc. The show can be seen from Thursday to Sunday and you can check the schedules on this website.
