I am passionate about Japan and to date I have had the opportunity to travel to Japan twice. If you are regular readers, you will know that I can't stand the sushi, but that is no problem, because Japanese cuisine goes much further. Luckily, in Barcelona we can find 100% Japanese restaurants with all kinds of traditional food from the country of the rising sun. Next, I present the list of my Favorite Japanese restaurants in Barcelona and which for us are the best.

Yoi Yoi Gion: specialists in udon

This restaurant specializes in udon (thick buckwheat noodles) comes from the hand of Keiji Ishizusha, a former professional J-League player, who opened this place just over a year ago. The decoration is minimalist, but it has plenty of space and many tables to sit on. As for the food, although I am not especially a fan of the udon, those of Yoi Yoi are very good. The noodles are made in a traditional way with a machine specially brought from Japan. You can try the udon with hot miso soup, with cold broth (Hiya udon) or sauteed on the grill (yaki udon). Do not miss the takoyakis (balls filled with octopus) that are of vice.

Yoi Yoi Gion It is at 383 Diagonal Avenue. The schedule is from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. except Sundays and Monday mornings.

Kote Restaurant: Okonomiyaki in Sabadell

This restaurant is outside Barcelona, but I guarantee that the small excursion is worth it. When you cross the entrance threshold you already have the feeling of having moved to Japan. The decoration is modern but warm and perfectly combines Japanese elements such as patterned fabrics and uchiwa hanging on the wall This restaurant specializes in grilled dishes and the stars of the menu are the yakisoba and okonomiyaki. We take a okonomiyaki Osaka style (with noodles inside) that was delicious, and another Hiroshima style that was great. A special mention to desserts and green tea ice cream, which is super creamy. And don't miss it: the WC is bellboy! That is a Japanese experience without leaving the province of Barcelona.

He Kote restaurant It is on Sant Antoni 25 street in Sabadell. The fastest way to get there by public transport is with the S2 line of the Generalitat Railways, stopping at Sabadell Rambla. Open from Wednesday to Monday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Ramen-ya Hiro: the best ramen from Barcelona

I almost cried when I heard that there was a restaurant that only served ramen in Barcelona. He ramen is a dish originally from China but very typical and popular in Japan. It consists of a bowl of broth with noodles accompanied by a slice of meat and naruto. At Ramen-ya Hiro they serve, in my opinion, the best ramen I've tried in Barcelona. The secret of its success is the broth that Hiroki Yoshiyuki prepare each day on low heat for almost 10 hours and the noodles that are made by hand. That is why it is not surprising that long lines are formed every day in front of the restaurant.

He Ramen-ya Hiro It is on Girona Street 164. It opens from Monday to Saturday from 13.30 to 15.30 and from 20.30 to 23.30, and closes on Sundays and Wednesdays at noon. It has a lunch menu ramen and gyoza for € 10.50. You can read the review I wrote of the restaurant on the website of MyVuelingCity.

Bouzu: a izakaya in the neighborhood of Sant Antoni

The izakayasThey are the typical taverns and bars of Japan where, in addition to alcoholic beverages, dishes and tapas are served. Near to Mercat de Sant Antoni, this small restaurant captures all the essence of izakayas and lets you taste Japanese tapas like edamame or the tori no karaage and also find more complete dishes such as okonomiyaki, the yakisoba or fish based dishes like the sashimi or the tataki Salmon

He Bouzu It is in Ronda Sant Antoni 26. The place is very small, so I recommend you reserve a table (93 443 32 26)

Tempura-ya: tempura and much more

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Barcelona where I have had the pleasure of eating. As the name implies, the menu includes an extensive offer of dishes based on tempura or very elaborated breaded vegetables. For lovers of sushi and the sashimi, the restaurant has a bar to prepare these dishes where you can see how they prepare them. It is highly recommended the lunch menu that is served from Monday to Friday.
